THE TOWER

The Tower, released in early October 2022, consists of twelve stories with complex connections. The stories explore, among other themes, the loneliness of not belonging, of being cut adrift by grief, betrayal, or old age.

I think of the long title story as something of a fairy tale for its elderly character, Dorelia MacCraith, since the tower house she acquires is a place where the raw grief of widowhood is magically lifted from her, along with all the other accumulated sorrows of her long life.

In the tower, Dorelia sets out to re-write the stories of old women who have been poorly treated in literature. It is an immense task, but one she embarks on joyfully.
